The custom domain feature allows ON24 customers to align their Engagement Hub URL to their corporate domain. Customers may utilize this feature for branding, SEO, and/or technical purposes.
Note: Custom Domain is available as part of the newest version of the Engagement Hub (Engagement Hub Enterprise). If you are interested in using this feature, please contact your Account Manager. Customers can also buy this feature as an add-on. Please allow for setup time as custom domains require multiple steps on the ON24 and customer side as well as testing.
Setup will require your IT/NetOps teams to work with ON24 during the configuration process, which involves creating custom URLs (i.e., hub.customername.com) and acquiring an SSL certificate. Each Engagement Hub will need to have a separate subdomain, and some scenarios require customers also configure a custom domain for Elite Webinars.
Customers should match their brand styling from their website to their Engagement Hub. Once the custom domain setup is complete, the Engagement Hub will appear to be a natural extension of – and SEO will be properly attributed to – a customer’s website.
Customers should also enable custom domain for their Elite webinars, which will use the same custom domain for in the Audience URL for webinars. The auto-registration option enables audiences of the event to access the Engagement Hub (which uses the custom domain) listed in the Take Action tool without re-registration.
Note: If Elite webinars are not enabled with the same custom domain, the auto-registration feature in the Take Action engagement tool will not work. They will have to register if they try to access that Engagement hub.
Note: Once a custom domain is configured for Engagement Hub, the URLs for any Target pages associated with the Engagement Hub will also display the custom domain.
Custom Domain Process - Initial Setup
Step (Party) |
Step (Description) |
0 (Client & ON24) |
Reach out to your CSM or Solutions Consultant to express your interest in setting up a custom domain. |
1 (Client) |
Acquire a subdomain for products to be configured: one for each Engagement Hub URL (e.g. hub.customername.com ) and one for Elite Webinars (e.g. events.customername.com). |
2 (Client) |
Submit a case to Platform Support to request the creation of a certificate for the domain to be used (e.g.hub.customername.com ).
|
3 (Client)* |
Client submits a site map to search engines (Google search console). Please note, to submit the site map, you must complete the site verification with the Domain name provider option: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9008080?hl=en Engagement Hub site maps can be copied from the “Overview” tab within the platform. |
4 (Client) |
Add DNS CNAME entries that would point Engagement Hub domains to ON24 Virtual Servers. |
5 (ON24) |
ON24 installs an SSL certificate on the custom domains requested. |
6 (ON24) |
ON24 configures all Engagement Hubs & Target instances in the ON24 platform to use the desired custom domain (e.g. hub.customername.com ). |
7 (N/A) |
With this setup in place, Engagement Hub & Target URLs will be displayed and published to end-users using the custom domain, and you will be able to use the full breadth of the features available in Engagement Hub and Target. |
8 |
Client must inform IT/Security teams to EXCLUDE each of the configured Custom Domains from any security scanning, vulnerability testing, web crawling, or other similar activities. |
9 |
Enable “Allow search engines to crawl/index” via toggle on your Engagement Hub Overview tab. With this, ON24 will dynamically construct and maintain sitemap_<customer-domain>.xml of all content across Engagement Hubs & Target pages, and the sitemap can be copied from the Overview tab. |
10 (ON24)* |
ON24 handles robots.txt file mapping. |
11 (N/A)* |
Search engines will crawl site map content pages and index them for search. Please note that search results ranking depends on various factors and is not something that ON24 can control. |
*Steps 3, 9-11 are specific to using custom domain for SEO and do not necessarily have to be done if the Engagement Hub won’t be indexed by search engines.
Custom Domain Process - Renewal (Annual)
Note: You may need to renew your domain name. ON24 automated the SSL renewal.
