This article outlines how to use the screen share tool within Elite Studio. Screen share is only available when using the Live Video present type.
Note: Screen share is not supported on mobile devices or on Safari browsers v15 and older.
Using Screen Share
Login into Elite Studio, and connect to the presenter interface.
Note: Screen Sharing requires the presenter who is intending to share to connect to the event via the connection panel to support the sharing stream.
Once connected, you'll see the screen share icon in the tool bar.
Choose to share either an entire screen, tab, or just an application window.
Once a screen/application is selected, your screen will be visible to the audience in the Media Player on the Audience Console. Presenters will view the screen share within the Media Player in Elite Studio.
An alert appears at the bottom of your first monitor to confirm screen sharing is in progress.
- The alert itself may be hidden by clicking Hide. Once hidden, hold down ALT+TAB to select the extension and re-open the control bar.
To stop screen share, click the Screen Share button again in Elite Studio or the Stop Sharing button on the screen share alert.
- If a presenter fails to stop screen share, another presenter or a producer can start a screen share from their user interface to overwrite the current session or quickly begin and end screen share to end the current session.
Best Practices
- Complete a technical rehearsal to test screen share before the event
- The sooner you complete your technical rehearsals, the more time you have to troubleshoot and engage ON24 support should you need assistance
- During technical rehearsals, presenters wanting to test screen share must be connected to the Control Panel / Video Presenter Bridge in some fashion for the screen share to display in the Preview URL and/or the Media Player in Elite Studio
- If you plan to share most of the desktop area, reduce screen resolution to 1024x768 (4:3) or 1152x648 (16:9) to conserve audience bandwidth and minimize delays
- Also, consider reducing the color depth to "High Color (16-bit)."
- Screen Sharing requires the presenter who is intending to share to connect to the event via the connection panel to support the sharing stream.
- Be sure to close instant messaging applications, Outlook email alerts, meeting reminders, and other such windows you do not want visible to viewers
- Remove or hide confidential files and folders from your desktop
- Open the applications you'll need for the screen share before the webinar starts and shut down all other non-essential applications
- Screen sharing is bandwidth-intensive and designed to demonstrate applications
- It is not appropriate for showing videos or animations - these elements are best displayed using different methods, like pushing pre-recorded video clips
- Screen share does not support two presenters sharing at the same time
- Wait for the current presenter to stop screen sharing before the next presenter begins to screen share
- If a presenter turns on their screen share before their cue, they will take control of the event, and the audience will see their screen
Audience View
When using screen share, the Media Player on the audience console will automatically maximize when the screen share starts and automatically minimize once the presenter stops the screen share.
No plug-ins or downloads are required for the audience.
Known Screen Share Issues
Presenters running Chrome Version 99.0.4844.74 on iOS/Mac (Big Sur 11.6 and other versions) may experience an inability to screen share in Breakout rooms (and during Live Video and Audio with screen share (Video Presenter Bridge) webinars).
To resolve this issue:
- Open System Preferences (users may hit CMD + Space and type “pref”)
- Open “Security & Privacy”
- On the left, scroll down to “Screen Recording” and click it.
- Users may need to click the lock on the bottom left to make changes and enter their credentials.
- Uncheck Chrome on the right.
- On the popup, click “Quit & Reopen”
- Re-check the Chrome box again.
- Click “Quit & Reopen”
