If you have the Broadcast Video module in your Webcast Elite account, you can use it to stream a live Zoom meeting into a live webinar. Possible use cases include a panel discussion and/or a need for a layout that accommodates more presenters. Zoom does not enable live streaming by default - you'll find it under "live advanced" settings.
Notes:
- The Broadcast Video option is available at an additional cost and will need to be enabled for your account. Please contact your ON24 Sales Representative for pricing.
- This article is not an official ON24 solution, it is a suggestion. One reason for this is that this violates our best practices for Broadcast Videos to always have a backup stream. A backup stream isn't an option for Zoom. You will also need to work with Zoom to ensure your Zoom account allows webcast streaming.
Follow these steps to stream a live Zoom meeting into a live ON24 webinar:
Step 1
When creating a live webinar, choose Broadcast Video as the Present Type.
Step 2
Copy the Encoder A Stream URL and ID of the ON24 webinar to use when setting up your Zoom meeting. The Stream URL and ID will be listed at the bottom of the Overview page.
Step 3
When setting up your Zoom meeting, go to the Live Stream section, and click on Edit. Paste the Encoder A Stream URL, Stream ID, and the preview link in the popup window.
To the best of our knowledge, Zoom sends ON24 the following: 1280 x 720, Frame Rate: 30fps, Video Format: H.264, Variable Bit Rate (Bit rate fluctuates between 1.5-3.2 Mbps, mostly averaging around 2.5 Mbps ). Key Frame Interval is 2 seconds.
Note: When setting up the live stream, only one stream URL may be entered. Therefore there is no backup or Encoder B for the Zoom stream into the ON24 webinar.
Step 4
Launch Elite Studio.
Note: When using Zoom with Broadcast Video, the webcast Start Live button only starts the recording - the Zoom feed will be available to the audience once the Zoom itself is started. In order to prevent your presenters from being seen in the Audience Console during the lobby period (the 15 minutes before the webcast start time), the Zoom connection should be started at the same time the webcast Start Live button is pushed. Testing your connection should be done in advance of the lobby period.
Step 5
When you're ready to start the webcast, start the Zoom meeting and choose Custom Live Streaming from the More menu in the footer. This will start streaming the Zoom meeting into the webinar. Push Start Live to start recording.
Your audience will now see the Zoom meeting in the audience console.
