With Key Moments Video Clips, you can easily find the most engaging moments from your event and automatically create video clips. This article covers how to generate, edit, and share Key Moments Video Clips so you can continue highlighting your best webinar content across multiple channels after the live event. Key Moments are identified by analyzing the times your audience was most likely to interact with your content during an event. Then, our automated pipeline takes the webinar's Single File Archive and creates Key Moment video projects based on the time codes in the Key Moments Reporting.
Note: This capability is included in the AI‑powered Analytics and Content Engine package. If you’re interested in adding it for an additional cost, please contact your account manager or complete this form.
Key Moments Video Clips provide insights and content you can use to:
- Identify the portions of your events that resonate most with the audience, potentially providing ideas for the development of new related content
- Repurpose the best moments of your webinars into bite-size content that can be distributed through multiple channels
- Drive additional consumption of the recorded event for those who did not attend the live session
- Create nurture campaigns with ready-to-use content with minimal effort
Create Key Moments from Events
Things to Know
Key Moments video clips are generated when requested for events that meet the following criteria:
- The event is video-based
- At least 10 minutes long with a minimum of 400 words spoken (in one of the original speech-to-text on-demand captioning languages)
- Find more information on Key Moments reporting criteria.
- Audio-only event with no accompanying slides
- Recurring Simu-live events
- Breakout Rooms
- A hybrid event with the "in-person" option enabled
- Key Moments video clips do not generate when clients use a silent audio file as Presenter Media and a video clip as content for Simu-live and On-Demand events.
- The expected resolution of the video clips is 720p
Setup
Key Moments video clips can be generated from events run in your account. By default, the duration of Key Moments video clips is set to two minutes.
Request Key Moment video clips from the Smart Plays card in the Overview section of Webcast Elite. Key Moments video clips must be requested for each event individually.
After you toggle on Key Moments video clips, choose the Video Format by clicking the pencil icon. Pick the layout for your video, then click OK.
Note: The video‑only 9:16 vertical layout is planned for the June 2026 release for NextGen and Forum events, enabling mobile‑first, social‑optimized content creation. This format supports video content exclusively and does not display slides.
Once generated, Key Moments video clips will be found in the Media Manager. Links to Key Moments video clips will also appear under Smart Plays in the Overview section of Webcast Elite.
It can take up to several hours after the event ends for the videos to appear.
In the Media Manager, Key Moments video clips are kept as a collection underneath the corresponding event recording file. To help locate Key Moments video clips, you can select Video and Key Moment under Content Type in the Media Manager filter panel.
Click on a video in the collection to open the Flyout Panel if you need to make any changes to attributes or components.
Known Issues if You Modify the Presenter Media
If you remove content from the presenter media (either via the Archive > Edit Event for On Demand Viewing tool or by re-uploading presenter media that is edited outside of ON24), the transcript must be regenerated before you can use the Text to Video Editor.
- The transcript regenerates automatically, but it can take up to 1 hour to complete.
- If you try to create a Key Moment Video Clip before regeneration finishes, the text in the Editor will be outdated, and your video clip will be incorrectly generated.
- Wait until the transcript regeneration is complete before creating new clips from the Key Moment Collection.
Modifying the presenter media after a Key Moment Video Clip has been created can break the alignment between the video and the Text to Video Editor.
- For example, if you remove content from the presenter media that occurs before or during an existing Key Moment Video Clip, the internal timestamps will shift. The clip will be unaltered, but if you edit it in the Text to Video Editor, the text will no longer match the video.
- Proceeding with edits in this state will result in an incorrectly generated video.
- If you need to edit the clip, first re-create it through the Key Moment Collection.
If you know you will be making post-live modifications to the presenter media before the event goes live, set the Overview > Smart Plays > Generate video clips from Key Moments toggle to off.
- This prevents the system from automatically generating video clips based on “old” timestamps.
- Once the presenter media modifications are finalized and the transcript has finished regenerating, toggle this setting on to trigger the generation of the Key Moment Video Clip.

Text to Video Editor - Beta - Slow Rollout
Notes:
- This feature requires the ACE package.
- A redesigned interface is available for accounts with Text to Video Editor enabled.
- This feature will be rolled out to customers in phases. See the Platform Rollouts tab of the Product Release article for details.
The Text to Video Editor allows you to trim, delete, restore, and refine Key Moment Video Clips that are generated from an event.
To open the editor, open the Key Moments collection in the Media Manager, click on the kebab menu next to the video you’d like to update, and select Edit Video.
You can edit in three ways:
-
Transcript panel: Check the Transcript box to display video content as text. Select and delete any portion of the transcript to remove the corresponding video segment. Create a video clip by selecting the text that you want to include.
-
Timeline panel: Check the Timeline box to display a visual timeline showing video thumbnails with a timecode ruler and optional audio waveform. Drag to select sections, zoom in and out, and delete segments directly on the timeline.
-
AI Agent: Use this natural-language chat interface to get assistance with editing, identifying, and generating key moment videos.
Deleted text appears with a strikethrough, and the word count and duration are updated automatically. If you change your mind, simply select the crossed‑out text to reveal a Restore option that returns the words to your video.
Once changes are complete, name your video, then select Preview Layouts to choose a video layout. You'll be able to preview your changes before clicking Create.
Adding New Clips
Under the Key Moments Collection, create a custom Key Moments Video Clip by clicking Add Video to open the Content Builder. Highlight the text you'd like to use in the video, just like when editing existing clips.
Note: When creating a video clip, the event itself must be less than two hours long. If your event lasts longer than 2 hours, the text editor may lag and become less responsive, affecting usability.
In the Content Builder, highlight text to select the portion of the transcript you'd like to use in the video. Drag the selection handles at each end of the selected text to adjust your selection.
Review/add a video name, then click Preview Layouts to select a layout option for your new video clip.
A preview of the video will be available for review before saving.
Once the video is created, you can select the flyout panel to update the thumbnail, add or modify tags, upload a caption file, and publish.
Pro Tip: You can add intro and outro slides, watermarks, and automated captions to your videos in the Account Branding > Video Settings section for more customization.
Key Quotes
Key quotes from your event are highlighted in green in the editing tool to help you easily find some of the most engaging event content within the transcript. Click Key Quote to quickly generate a new video clip of the key quote.
You may jump directly to key quotes within a video transcript and move seamlessly between them using the Previous and Next controls under the video preview.
Once you've highlighted the key quotes and text you want in the new video:
- Name the video
- Choose a layout for the new video
- Preview and save the video
Sharing Key Moments
When you're ready, publish or share the Key Moments Video Clip in other locations or choose the Key Moments videos you'd like to include in your Nurture Pages.
Auto-generated abstracts will be available and can be edited once Key Moments video clips are added to Nurture Pages or inserted into Engagement Hub or Target pages.
You can also download the clips for use outside of ON24.
Open the Key Moments collection in the Media Manager, then click the kebab menu next to the video you want to use to find the download option.
